I’m talking to him about things that he hasn’t talked to his family about. That peer-to-peer support is vital.”

TROY, MI, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Navy SEAL veteran Evan Shelline, the founder and president of VETTED in Troy, is booking talks for Veterans Day and the weeks around it with service clubs, schools, senior living communities and veteran organizations across Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

Shelline served about a decade in the U.S. Navy, including about six years with the SEAL Teams, and made two combat deployments to Iraq with SEAL Team 4. After the Navy he directed more than 60 vessel protection operations in maritime security and counter-piracy without a security incident. Today much of his time goes to older veterans, many of whom served in Korea and Vietnam and have rarely talked about it.

“They weren’t treated very well. And so sometimes they just have a little bit of a boundary, a little standoff,” Shelline said of Vietnam-era veterans in a 2025 interview recorded at Inbound 281’s Studio 281.

Talks for Veterans Day

- All Present and Accounted For: what older veterans tell each other. Why Shelline founded The Veteran Muster, a veterans-only gathering held in senior living communities, and what happens when Korean War and Vietnam veterans sit down with other veterans.
- The Buddy Check: how to call a veteran you know. A short, practical talk on checking in with a veteran, what to ask and how to listen.
- Leadership lessons from the SEAL Teams and maritime security. Planning carefully, making roles clear and looking after the people on your team.
- Honoring veterans at home and at the end of life. What families, caregivers and care communities can do to recognize a veteran’s service while he or she is still with us.

Formats include a 20- to 30-minute talk with questions for a club lunch or breakfast meeting, short remarks for a Veterans Day ceremony, a classroom or assembly visit, and radio and podcast interviews.

Speaking on Veterans Radio in October about veterans who need someone to talk to, Shelline said: “We will find somebody through the American Legion, VFW… we’ll get you connected.”
